Here is a video demo of how to do the Notan Tribal Mask once you have completed your 2-3 thumbnail sketches. Click on this link here for full screen options.
Today, students were introduced to the Notan concept of art. This is a design concept of Japanese origins which means Light vs. Dark harmony. They will create a tribal mask using Light and Dark symmetry.
Last week, we begin creating abstract compositions using watercolor. We started with our backgrounds where we used a wet-in-wet watercolor technique with very pale, washed out colors. (see the steps from above.)
This week, we are beginning to compose line and shapes in dry brush technique on top of our pale backgrounds. Click on the video link here to see a full screen version of the video below: Today, students experimented and practiced using prismacolor colored pencils. This is a great brand that stands out on the page like paint if used correctly. They are able to mix and blend to make new colors, tints and shades.
6th Grade students have created wonderful radial designs and are now in the process of deciding on a color scheme. They may choose one of the following color schemes and must include a tint (color + white) and a shade (color + black) with each of their colors.
Students are choosing which color scheme to work with in their radial balance designs. They will get to choose from Monochromatic, Complementary, or Analogous color schemes.
Students will be learning how to create a Radial Balance Design using their name. They will be focusing on balance and creating a color scheme. |
