This is a year-long class for advanced 8th grade art students to get high school credit.
There are many different types of ways to study art. We break these down into 4 different categories: Art Production, Art Criticism, Art History and Aesthetics.

You need to have your weebly blog updated by Thursday, April, 21st!!
What should be included? Check out this earlier post...http://lostmountainart.weebly.com/8th-grade-va-comp/weebly-blog-check-3 How would you like to earn bonus points on your sketchbook grades?! Simply email the answer to the following question below to me at [email protected] for up to 20 bonus points on your sketchbook grade! Answers must be emailed to me by Friday, April 15th to get bonus credit. This question has 3 parts:
A. What TYPE of drawing is Figure A? B. What TYPE of drawing is Figure B? C. What TYPE of drawing is Figure C? For our next blog check you will need to update your blog with everything we have done from the beginning of the year to the present. I am including a copy of the first semester weebly blog checklist for you to ensure that all of that is complete.
We also need to be sure that all that you have done this semester has been photographed and included on your weebly blog. This includes the following images:
1. Scratchboard Portrait (on the my art page) 2. Superhero Talisman Project (on the my art page) 3. Mash up (common assessment #3) (on the Common Assessment #3 page) 4. Artist Statement for Mash up (common assessment #3) (on the Common Assessment #3 page) 5. Sketchbook Assignments from this semester. (4 of your choice) (on the sketchbook page) 6. Any completed altered book pages. (in a separate section on your "my art" page) Everything should be updated to your weebly blog no later than Thursday, April 21st!! Today, we will be altering a photo of yourself using Pixlr for an upcoming self portrait we will start for our next project. Follow the directions below to alter your photo. Please print out a 5x7 copy of your photo when you have finished. (we will use this for our next project.)
4. Now, use the crop tool to crop in tight onto your face. 5. You may need to zoom in to see your image better. Select view, then zoom in. 6. Next, click on Adjustment, then hit Hue Saturation in the drop down menu. Bring the Saturation down as far as it will go so the photograph is completely black and white. 7. Next click on adjustment, then Posterize in the drop down menu. 8. Change the levels to 4 and click OK. 9. If the levels look funny (too much grey, not enough white, etc), you may want to UNDO posterize and change the brightness and contrast a bit. Usually making it a little brighter and upping the contrast works to fix it and get the look you want. (Sometimes I have to play with the levels a few times before I get it the way I want it.) Once you have done this, go back to step 7 and 8 to posterize. 10. When you are finished and you have your image posterized with 4 levels and it looks the way you like it, you need to save it to your student number on the computer.
11. Then pull up the image from your number and print out your photograph as a 5x7 image.
We are going to use a Noton Square to emphasize the principle of Contrast in our altered books today!
