Students are required to do value shading on their skeleton drawings, so today we practiced how to use the shading pencils and get gradual changes from dark to light. Below is a guide for how to shade, a shading in progress, and a completed shading sheet.

Students have begun creating thumbnail sketches for their skeleton composition. They will use view finders to crop in on an interesting part of the skeleton to help draw accurate contours. They will then add shading using various drawing pencils. Finally, students will create a choice of backgrounds using either watercolor techniques or bubble printmaking to create interest in the negative space.
If students have not completed their Monochromatic Self Portraits, they may work on them at home as long as they turn them in by Friday of this week.
Students have chosen their oil pastel color and are practicing blending 4 different values with white, black, and two shades of one color.
Students are going to begin a self portrait with oil pastels with a monochromatic color scheme.
