Inside the pocket, create cards to pull out to show all different types of contrast: big vs. small, smooth vs. rough, light vs. dark, bright vs. dull, geometric vs. organic, etc.
Create a page for contrast using a pocket. You can create a pocket from folding a page over and glueing it, using an envelope, or even just a sheet of paper to create a pocket. Below are some cool ones I found on the internet. For bonus points on the Altered Book assignment, you may create a niche to represent Emphasis. Below, I'm including a few tips for creating a niche.
To glue thick blocks of pages, glue the outer edges only. Hold the block together using your hand and/or a clamp. Spread glue along the outer edges of the pages. Squish it around with your fingers so some goes inside as well. Ensure all page edges are covered with glue. Similarly, apply glue to the inner edges of the niche itself, if desired. People approach this in different ways. This is my preferred method.
For samples of altered book pages, please see the 8th grade blog . You may also do a bonus page using movement where you will paint a loose watercolor painting with lots of movement. Then you will cut the painting into small strips and put it back together to form more movement within the book. Don't forget to add the title and definition for this and all pages.
