This is a year-long class for advanced 8th grade art students to get high school credit.
Today we are heading to lab 139 to create our weebly blogs. Students will be required to create a blog with the 5 pages as a digital portfolio of the work they will be doing this year. The pages that are needed will be:

Once students have their plants glued down and their contours drawn out, they will then create various Zentangle-Inspired designs within each plant.
Don't forget the all VA Comp students have a sketchbook assignment due tomorrow to draw fantasy art. (see the sketchbook sheet for specific directions.)
Also, for those of you who are going to submit yearbook designs, they are due tomorrow as well. Once students have laid out their composition and glued it down, they should go over the contours with fine tip sharpie before adding the zentangle designs. That way, the design doesn't get confused with the contour lines.
Once students have drawn out all of their contours on the colored paper, they will cut them out and lay them out on the paper in order to create the best composition. Students should be sure to have overlapping plant shapes with very little negative space. They are able to hang off the edge of the paper if needed. Keep trying until you get the perfect composition!
Today we completed our first altered book 2-page spread on the element of LINE. Students created a linear collage with fancy/textured papers. They then added line design with colored sharpies and completed the page with the title: LINE and its definition. Students who were not able to complete the assignment in class today can take it home, come in to work in the mornings, or complete it as an early finisher when they finish projects early in class.
Those of you who are choosing to submit a yearbook cover design, I am attaching images of the color schemes that we have chosen for this year's yearbook.
This year Lost Mountain is letting a student design the cover of the yearbook! The theme for this year is all about VOICES! The design will want to feature a maximum of 4-6 colors. (think jewel-toned colors) All designs must be in to Mrs. Denison by August 18th! Please see the attached Powerpoint to see ideas for yearbook covers.
VA Comp's first sketchbook assignment is due this Thursday. For more information, please check the sketchbook tab on the VA Comp drop down menu. http://lostmountainart.weebly.com/sketchbooks.html
Students are creating exotic landscape environments with contour drawings of tropical plants combined with interesting zentangle patterns to decorate and embellish each plant. |
